Latest Update
In July 2025, Humanity Foundation distributed 120 school kits in the slum areas of Nala Sopara. Each child received books, notebooks, stationery, slippers, and a school bag. For many, it was the first time they had their own set of learning materials.
One little girl, Meera, told our volunteers, “Now I don’t have to carry my books in a plastic bag. I can walk to school with my friends proudly.” Her joy reflects what your contributions truly mean.
Our next goal is to reach 200 more children before the new school year begins — ensuring that no child is left behind simply because of poverty.
Story
In the narrow lanes of slums, childhood often means struggle instead of schooling. Many children grow up without books, slippers, or even a proper school bag. For them, education is not just distant — it feels impossible.
Most of these children are first-generation learners. Their parents, working as daily wage laborers or domestic helpers, cannot afford even basic supplies. A few rupees spent on notebooks could mean less food on the table that day. As a result, many children drop out, left with no option but to work alongside their parents.
Humanity Foundation launched the Bright Futures initiative to ensure no child is denied learning because of poverty. By distributing books, study kits, slippers, and bags, we give them not only the tools to study but also the confidence to walk into school with dignity.
Challenges Slum Children Face
Children in these communities often suffer from:
Lack of school supplies (books, stationery, bags, uniforms)
No safe footwear, making daily travel to school painful
Malnutrition that affects their ability to concentrate
Pressure to drop out and work to support family income
Gender discrimination that limits opportunities for girls
The Support They Should Receive
Every child deserves:
Books and stationery to complete their studies
School bags and uniforms to attend school with dignity
Basic nutrition support to stay focused in class
Mentorship and after-school help to guide their learning
Encouragement for girls to continue education and delay early marriage
Financial Struggles Families Face
For parents living in poverty, education is often sacrificed for survival. Buying notebooks, uniforms, or paying school fees feels impossible when daily wages barely cover food. Families often choose between sending a child to school or having them work to add a few rupees to the household income.
For girls, the challenges are even greater — early dropout and early marriage are common, leaving them without the independence that education could provide.
How You Can Help
Your support can rewrite a child’s story:
₹1,000 provides a complete school kit (books, stationery, bag, slippers)
₹5,000 supports the education needs of a small group of children
₹10,000 helps organize a seasonal school material distribution drive
When you support Bright Futures, you are not just giving notebooks or bags — you are giving children the chance to dream, to learn, and to break the cycle of poverty.
